A post with thousands of likes can feel like a success. But what happens if none of those people become customers?

Social media has created an endless stream of numbers to measure: likes, views, shares, saves, followers, reach, and impressions. These metrics can tell us what people are doing, but they don't always tell us whether the business is moving forward.

Not Every Metric Has the Same Job

Reach can tell us whether we're getting attention. Engagement can indicate relevance. Clicks can show intent. Leads and purchases demonstrate business impact.

The important question is not which metric is highest. It's which metric matters at each stage of the customer journey.

Build Content Around Intent

Different pieces of content should have different jobs.

Awareness content introduces the brand. Educational content builds trust. Product-focused content creates consideration. Conversion content gives people a reason to act.

Treating every post as if it needs to generate a sale usually makes social content feel repetitive and overly promotional.

Connect the Journey

A successful social strategy doesn't end at the post. It connects content with landing pages, email, retargeting, and the eventual conversion experience.

When those pieces work together, social media becomes more than a publishing channel. It becomes part of the growth system.

The goal isn't more engagement. It's more meaningful engagement that moves people forward.
